Jeju Workation Experience by nomads from 14 different countries; push for Jeju-type visa introduction
30 digital nomads from 14 countries experienced workation in Jeju from October 31 to November 7.
Jeju Workation with Global Digital Nomads (Hoppin; Jeju),' hosted by Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the International Convention Center Jeju (ICC Jeju), has concluded successfully.
The event, held from October 31 to November 7, was attended by 30 digital nomads from 14 countries, including the United States, France, and Australia. 'Digital Nomad' is a compound word of 'digital' and 'nomad.' Drawing from the nomadic characteristic of not being bound to one place, it refers to people who live freely while working from home or remotely using digital devices without spatial constraints.
This event, organized by the global workation startup Hoppers Inc., was designed to attract overseas digital nomads and create a global workation ecosystem. Hoppers is a company that plans networking events to help Korea grow into an Asian digital nomad hub.
Participants worked in shared workation offices and enjoyed Jeju's unique cultural experiences during their leisure time, such as walking Olle trails, hiking Oreums (volcanic cones), and tangerine picking.
In particular, networking events linked with the local community received a great response. Major sessions were operated at the startup networking conference 'JOIN 2024,' and during 'Digital Nomad Meetup Day,' participants discussed Jeju's potential and areas for improvement as a global workation city with Korean digital nomads and young entrepreneurs living in Jeju.

Participant satisfaction surveys confirmed high satisfaction with the program and a 100% intention to participate again. notably, 77% of those wishing to revisit expressed a desire for long-term stays of more than 3 weeks even after the event ended. Participants expressed satisfaction with the workation workspaces and suggested expanding exchange opportunities with local residents.
The Jeju Provincial Government stated that global promotional effects are expected through Hoppers' SNS channels, including the newsletter of the representative domestic community 'Digital Nomads Korea.'
Jeju Province has decided to push for the introduction of a 'Jeju-type Digital Nomad Visa' that combines the visa-free entry system with a workation visa. In line with the central government's policy to attract overseas talent, the province plans to ease visa issuance criteria and actively attract global digital talent.
Kim In-young, Director of the Economic Vitality Bureau, said, "Workation, a new lifestyle of the digital era, will become a growth engine for Jeju," adding, "Through this project, we have confirmed the possibility that Jeju can leap forward as a representative workation hub in Asia."
